PENNY

We can't talk about Penny without first mentioning Rocky. Rocky was chosen because I finally convinced my husband that a hairless dog would not upset his allergies. He gave in to make me happy, and we immediately fell in love. Unfortunately, we discovered within the week that he was deaf. Our vet suggested that another dog would serve as as "hearing guide dog" and be a big help to him. We had recently moved to a townhouse, and I felt that the smallest one in the litter would be the best choice. We named her Penny. This unplanned baby soon turned from an "oops" to a princess.

Penny showed Rocky when someone was at the door, when someone came into the room, when there was an unexplained noise. She let him know that when the TV was turned off, it was time to go bed because "Mom and Dad" were leaving. When Rocky came in from the deck howling and limping, Penny escorted me out and showed me the bee he had stepped on. While Rocky used his disability to misbehave during obedience class, Penny took it seriously, and was at the top of the class. Rocky is a Mama's boy, and is friendly to strangers, but prefers to "greet and retreat". Penny was the "ambassador" for them. She would let anyone hold her and pet her soft skin. She loved to flirt with my children's other male dogs. In turn, they all loved her. She was affectionate, playful, and a real "girlie girl". She especially loved having her picture taken whenever she got new clothes. She was a Princess.... she got a lot of new clothes! Because Rocky is such a Mama's boy, Penny became Daddy's girl. When it was cold he would take her outside and tuck her inside his coat. If I tried to take her out when my husband was home, she refused to go with me.... she'd run to him as if to say, "I want my Daddy to take me!" He couldn't resist. She was the Princess.

Penny had a birth defect in her esophagus and started having trouble breathing. She died too soon. Our house is quiet and empty without her.
My husband had these final words for her:
"Penny- I shall forever miss the warm, sweet, loving visitation upon my soul whenever you snuggled and lay in my lap."
We miss you, Penny!
