My darling Sage and Billy,

 

Where do I even start! I had the 2 most incredible little blessings come into my home. I am a volunteer with a rescue and was charged with the task of picking up a mother and son (seniors of 12 and 14 years) from the airport where I live, to evaluate them and then send them on to Ontario, Canada where they would be vetted and put up for adoption. The moment I saw those two faces peering out from their crate my heart was theirs. I did what I was asked and sent them away, albeit with a piece of my heart. I just could not get those two out of my mind. I had given my word to the family that surrendered them that they would live pampered lives for what time they had left and that they would be together and never split apart. To make a very long story short – they came home to me where they lived and loved until they passed onto the Rainbow Bridge a couple of months apart. Billy was a cute little rough and tumble boy who loved to bark at the big yellow lab next door. He was such a big dog in his own little mind! Sage was the diva in the household and made sure all the others kept in line. If they got rowdy in play she would bark her orders. I will dearly miss her snoring and taking up so much of the bed for such a little one. She always new when mommy was getting ready to go somewhere and would start her back talk to make sure I knew that she was coming whether I liked it or not. Billy passed away. on his own,and very quickly, yet never showed any sign of pain or discomfort. Billy had spent the day frolicking in the snow that he loved so much and hanging out with the big boys. One minute he was with us and the next he was gone. Sage joined her son at the Rainbow bridge just after Valentine’s day. She had developed a large tumor behind her eye and the other was covered with the cataract haze which left her 98% blind. It was only a matter of time before she would begin to suffer. We had to make the hardest decision to let her pass with the same dignity and grace she lived her life. The only peace of mind is that she is with her baby boy once again and they can run and play at the Bridge, Billy can chase the big dogs and Sage can keep them all in line. Until we meet again – my sweet fur babies I will keep you in my heart forever. I was truly blessed to have you both!
